Rolls-Royce presented Ghost with paintwork weighing 45 kg

On October 28, the Rolls-Royce Ghost performed by Black Badge premiered. Earlier in the series with the «black mark» the models Wraith, Dawn and Cullinan have already been noted. Thus, to date, only the flagship Phantom sedan has remained «unblacked» from the line of the English manufacturer.

The Black Badge series was introduced by Rolls-Royce in 2016. The line, which debuted on the Wraith and Dawn models, was positioned as a special philosophy of choosing «rebels», defined by the phrase «the dark alter ego of the Rolls-Royce brand.» In fact, behind the beautiful formulation is a slightly modified technical part and, of course, an exclusive package. Black Badge cars are distinguished by a forced engine, reconfigured transmission and suspension, more durable braking system. And the novelty is no exception.

Technically, the exclusive version of Ghost does not differ radically from the base machines, but enough to mention a few points. According to the already established tradition, the power of the 6.75-liter gasoline V12 is increased to 600 forces (+29 compared to the base) and 900 Newton meters (+50). It is noteworthy that all the monstrous traction is available already from 1700 rpm — that is, almost from the start. The drivetrain, steering and suspension are all tailored for a sportier driving mode — of course, as far as that would generally apply to a 2.5-ton sedan. The brakes remain the same, only the pedal sensitivity has changed — it has become sharper. As stated in an official press release, the brakes of even the base Ghost have enough performance headroom to cope with the increased dynamic performance of the car.

But, of course, the main highlight of «Ghosts with a black mark» is in the details of the exterior and interior decoration. The base color of the entire series is, of course, black. Rolls-Royce says it is «the darkest black color in the auto industry.» Considering the total weight of the coating applied to the body (45 kg), this can be believed. However, customers can still choose from 44,000 color shades on offer.

Rolls’ signature Spirit of Ecstasy also casts black. This is echoed by the monumental grill of the radiator grill. Both of these elements on the Black Badge are chrome-plated with a darkened finish and are hand-polished. Another unusual feature of the performance is the composite rims, consisting of 44 layers of carbon.

The salon continues the black and turquoise body theme. As with the other models in the series, the Ghost Black Badge captivates with a nightly interior theme and tinted chrome. In addition to the «starry sky» that has already become a tradition, a front console with a similar effect has been used for the first time on the ceiling. Visible only when the interior lighting is on, the scattering contains 850 stars and a luminous infinity sign.
