The Land Cruiser 300 is a novelty without any reservations: there is no screw or wiring left from the «two hundred». Will people’s love withstand such a test?

Range Rover? Gelendwagen? Grand Cherokee? No no and one more time no. In Russia, only one SUV, the Toyota Land Cruiser, has received such respect and national respect. The new «three hundred» has finally arrived in Russia in a diesel version!

He was greeted and will be greeted exclusively with applause: at least gasoline, at least diesel, at least electric, or, I’m not afraid of this word, hydrogen. The Toyota Land Cruiser is much more than just a car: it is both on-road status and off-pavement opportunities. This, calling a spade a spade, is the most coveted car from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok. And, at the same time, a car that will be relevant for many years. Not so much because Toyota has kept the model on the assembly line for decades, but more because of the attitude towards a particular SUV. He is loved in Russia like no one else, and is appreciated by everyone without exception. And since «Kruzak» has long been a «automotive measure», a reference SUV, then you need to ask from him at the highest level. Will the novelty pass such an exam?

And the exterior is also new: although the «Kruzak» actually remained in the old dimensions, it looks completely different. Sank, squared, hardened. To the delight of its consumer, who also does not get younger and more athletic over the years.

The TLC is a car for high-flying citizens, mostly mayors and governors, who are not characterized by youth ambitions. All these lines, edges and other «smiles» of fashion are at least inappropriate, like other experiments. «Kruzak» is about the classics, about the jacket, to which no matter how hard they tried, they never found an alternative. There are values here: confidence, resilience, stability. And no experimentation.

As a confirmation — the interior of the new car. «Toyota» can be defined at least «by touch», at least «by smell», without making a mistake by a single gram. Washers, toggle switches and other buttons are in place, and the big screen just to be there. Like, the car is new, here’s a tribute to the trends. For some reason I can’t believe that the buyer will pay attention to him when choosing.

And who will consider Kruzak when buying? At best, they will sit in a chair: it is comfortable, spacious and, most importantly, roomy. Domestic size passes with a margin, and for everything else there is a seat memory. The rest is no longer important. Where do I sign?

For the more demanding, the rear row and trunk are just as spacious as in previous iterations. There is plenty of room for legs and bodies, even if there are only a few basketball players, even if you carry ballerinas with a crowd, you will please everyone.

It is a pity that the two-part fifth door is a thing of the past — pebbles and sand will pour out of the hold during loading. The rest is strictly «Feng Shui». After all, the Japanese SUV is famous for the fact that when the generations change, the owner may not even notice this change. He sat down, went, the usual buttons in place.

There are three configurations to choose from in Russia: the «city» 70th anniversary, glorious for the wealth of equipment and the brightness of the external plumage, not appropriate in the «mud» due to the low-hanging bumper and the absence of proprietary «smart» E-KDSS stabilizers.

This is followed by the more off-road Comfort + — not so rich, but much more interesting off the tarmac.

And finally, the versatile GR Sport, which combines all the best from the previous two. The difference in price is minimal, and who can tell the exact price now? For how much they say — for as much they will buy, «merchant’s time» in the yard.

Tactile — nothing new. In fact, everything is new. And not just updated, but completely different. We will leave the fundamental differences between the body and the frame to experts and fanatics, but let’s talk about the technique, because the changes in it are noticeable to the naked eye.

Despite the rejection of the air suspension — it is now the privilege of the Lexus LX — the «corn truck» stands confidently on the road, stoically overcoming all the specifics of our native surface. A pit is a pit, a «sunbed» is a «sunbed» — you don’t have to slow down or dodge, cursing the weather and the road builders. Always straight, straight ahead.

The Japanese, by some miracle, taught the whopper to obey the steering wheel: if the predecessors were very reluctant to respond to the urges of the «helmsman», then the «three hundred» was added both in maneuverability and accuracy of turn. Where «two hundred» was hard and chaotic to overcome, «three hundred» copes easily. It is still a heavy SUV with a high center of gravity, but it now manages much more difficult exercises.

And the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 has become much faster than its ancestor. According to the documents, the motor produces 299 hp. and accelerates to a hundred in less than 7 seconds — RD-180, come out, they recognized you. But in fact it looks like this: we press the pedal, switch the radio station on the screen, pick our nose, and the speedometer is already 150 km / h.

In conjunction with the engine lives the classic 10-speed «automatic» from Aisin, the most important and largest Japanese manufacturer of transmissions, which has not yet given reasons to be unsure of itself. He didn’t give it this time either: the gears are switched imperceptibly, inaudibly and clearly. You won’t even get a click-click. Let’s be honest, there is simply nothing to complain about.

Seven seconds, of course, not, but it’s damn ambitious. Consumption did not impress: in a quiet mode, you can achieve 12 liters, but at a classic pace for «Kruzaks» — this is 19 liters of «heavy fuel» per hundred. Normal for a three ton machine.

However, the new engine also has its own «features»: cunning Denso injectors with a bunch of sensors, hollow shafts, both «distributors» and «knee», two turbines with variable geometry and an exhaust manifold, attention, welded to the aluminum cylinder head. From the understandable — only a cast iron block and Common Rail.

Technology is technology, relief is relief, but how will this «salad» feel in Russian realities? Simply put, how many kilometers and years will he travel before going to the minder? Even in the last generation, the «diesel» TLC raised many questions about the 200,000 km mileage, but what will happen to this «butterfly»? The Japanese have forgotten that the consumer attitude to the Land Cruiser has developed historically: the car is reliable, you can go with all the money. Our diesel fuel also does not get better day by day — you can find good quality in the city, but once you drive away a little, and the “stove-maker” begins. “Diesel” is a cold engine, but the manifold welded to the “head” seems to be too much. But in Kazakhstan, the same car can be purchased with a classic V8 …

Prominent «testers», of course, found many other, more «serious» shortcomings: either the bonnet seal was not rubber enough and bends, then the hood itself “plays” in dynamics (still, it’s an area with a “odnushka”), then the iron is too thin and bends, then the plastic sways, then the door cards come off. I have no doubt — this is from great love. Beats — it means he loves. Whatever the Toyota Land Cruiser is, it will be idolized and bought in Russia. For too long he «worked for the record book.»

Only one rule should be unshakable: «Kruzak» is for a long time, once every three years such «horses» are not changed. If changes are outlined in this direction — and they are quite possible, given the «features» of the new internal combustion engine, then the throne under the «king» may be shaken. There were precedents, history already knows such cases. And from love to hate, as you know, there is only one step. Or, applicable to cars, one generation.
